International Conference on Multi Disciplinary Approach towards Sustainable Development (Edition1)

Description

With increasing realisation of ecological limits of economic growth, the world is now under a self-imposed compulsion to evolve and adopt strategies of sustainable development. Threats which were earlier often considered debatable or remote in nature, are now felt as real and imminent and we can ill afford to ignore them in long run. It is also getting increasingly clear that climate change is affecting the planet in an irreversible manner and enhancing vulnerability of communities worldwide. Countries are on trajectory of aligning their policies and practices with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is also amply evident now that businesses and industries will have to reorient and re-align themselves towards sustainability if they intend to survive and expand.

Sustainable development, apart from fulfilling the needs of current generations, also requires inter-generational equity to be addressed. Considering the various dimensions of sustainability namely political, social, ecological and economic and involvement of multitude of stakeholders a multidisciplinary approach becomes inevitable. It is with this backdrop that the International Conference on Sustainable Development being organised at the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal on 21-22 February 2019 aspires to build a mosaic of multidisciplinary approaches to move towards SDGs. This Conference aims at involving government, academicians, corporate and the civil society and discuss cross cutting issues.
