Poonam Gandhi
Poonam Gandhi is a faculty of Sociology at FLAME University in Pune, where she brings over two decades of experience in higher education and interdisciplinary research. Her academic journey began at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, followed by a Master’s in Sociology from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, culminating in a Doctorate in Sociology with a specialisation in the Sociology of Art. She also holds diplomas in Human Resource Management and Foundation Art, reflecting her commitment to both organisational insight and creative inquiry. Dr. Gandhi has taught a wide spectrum of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Sociology and Human Development at the M.S. University of Baroda and has served as visiting faculty across diverse institutions, including IGNOU, the Women’s Studies Research Centre, the Department of Social Work, and the Medical College affiliated with M.S. University of Baroda.
Her research collaborations span leading organisations such as the Ford Foundation, SEWA (Self-Employed Women’s Association), Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), and the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), She has also co-led a research initiative commissioned by the Gujarat Council of Elementary Education (GCEE) and is a recipient of a prestigious research grant from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Dr. Gandhi’s scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and her authored volume, The World of Contemporary Fine Artists: An Exploration in Sociology of Art. Her research interests encompass the Sociology of Art and Culture, Gender and Family, Urban Heritage, and Social Gerontology. She has been recognised internationally for her work, receiving the Best Presentation Award at a conference in Washington, D.C., and the Best Research Paper Award at the “Women Empowerment: Global Perspective” conference in India. Her editorial approach is informed by a deep commitment to inclusive scholarship, cultural nuance, and the transformative potential of sociological insight.
