As you may have realized that this book has put together the lives of one hundred outstanding IITians who representing wide spectrum of backgrounds graduated from the various IITs in pre 2000 era with B.Tech, M.Tech and/or Ph.D degrees.This compendium may have missed covering many other IITians who are equally deserving, if not more, to be in the top 100 stories. However, we must all keep in our mind that the central purpose of this book is not to promote any single individual, but to bring forward illustrations of important roles IIT alumni particularly those who are based in India, have played in shaping the socioeconomic landscape of the country. It is our hope that the stories of these 100 IITians along with many such personalities, will offer our future generations the inspiration and the motivation in serving the development of Bharat in becoming a prestigious member in the assembly of the nations.
As you may also realize, this book has not covered the stories of IITians living abroad who have had tremendous impact in various nations as true global citizens, in turn directly and indirectly influenced the status India enjoys in the Global economy. Their contributions to the whole humanity also need to be celebrated. Some of these Great IITians may be staying thousands of miles away from India but still their hearts beat for India.
