This book has been conceptualized and developed through collaborative efforts involving contributors who are alumni and scholars affiliated with Departments of Library and Information Science nationwide. Notably, this publication coincides with the 80-year milestone of the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Delhi, marking a significant academic and research journey in April 2026, underscoring the rich legacy and continued evolution of LIS education in India. The participation of University of Delhi alumni, currently holding diverse academic, professional, and research positions, lends depth and authenticity to this work The book is organized into twenty-seven chapters each designed in a coherent and reader-friendly format. Every chapter focuses on Library and Information Science (LIS) education and begins with a concise overview of the historical development of the respective States and Union Territories (UTs). It further highlights the socio-cultural profile, encompassing aspects such as cultural diversity, language, and religion, and includes details of major educational and research institutions within the States and Union Territories (UTs). These include universities (Central, State, and Deemed), open and distance learning institutions, research institutes, R&D laboratories, national councils (educational, cultural, funding, and accreditation bodies), as well as important national-level headquarters, recruitment agencies, central forces, and investigative bodies. This contextual framework provides a meaningful backdrop for understanding the evolution and growth of LIS education in States and Union Territories (UTs) of India.
